Director: David Grapes II
Scenic Designer: J. David Blatt
Major Barbara was a crazy elaborate show. It was set in a semi-futuristic steampunk London. Act I represented high society literally having a lofty, elegant appearance with the top of Big Ben seen through the window. Act II showed what it was like to be on the bottom in the streets serving at the Salvation Army with a much more grungy dark feeling. Act III was literally in the air on a flying war ship really pushing the futuristic steampunk feeling with lots of fog/haze and other blimp and balloon drops in the back.
As the assistant scenic designer, I contributed to the model building and helped with designing some of the props and furnishing like the bombs in Act III. Having also been apart of the build team was crazy as we utilized the turntable and did a quarter turn for each act to help differentiate each of the three completely different scenic locations. There were SO MANY things in the air, some of the heaviest rails I've ever worked with in my life, and each being so completely essential to the whole design.
