Luna was a TYA show that had to fit inside the back of a 15 passenger van, along with the whole cast and crew. It traveled all over Northern Colorado to different schools and libraries. The show revolved around a young girl named Soledad who is the daughter of migrant farm workers. She struggles with having to move constantly and finds comfort in books and thinks of the moon as her only friend until she is finally able to make some connections at her new school.
This design was very challenging given the size constraints of the van. Everything had to have a dual purpose and had to be able to nest within other scenic items to maximize space. The backdrop was also very significant since the Moon (Luna) was a character within the show, we really needed to put an emphasis on the change from night to day. I created my backdrop rendering digitally and my charge artist did an incredible job bringing it to life. The wagon helped symbolize their moves packing up and traveling from town to town.
