Little Women is a classic show that I had the pleasure to design for Stage III Community Theatre in my hometown of Casper, WY. I attended some of my first theatrical performances at this theatre, so it was a really wonderful experience being able to design a show there. This was my first non-local design, so it was a bit of a challenge at first, but we got into a groove after a bit.
The classic novel Little Women was originally published in two volumes, Little Women and Good Wives. The Clapham version of Little Women covers the first volume,  and it's perfect for a cozy Christmastime show. Designing this show was a bit of a challenge for the space, usually in an intimate arena configuration, we decided for this show especially, we needed to open up the space. To do this, we took out the seating on the south wall, made a ground row of seating, and transformed the space into a makeshift thrust. We needed as much space as possible especially because at many points during the show almost the entire cast is on stage at the same time. From there, I wanted to create a cozy, lived-in home environment for the March family, especially since two acts of the show are set around Christmas.
